Sobre cómo no ser un deseo estúpido
On How Not To Be a Stupid Desire

Sobre cómo no ser un deseo estúpido is a contemporary devised theatre piece developed through a investigation laboratory. It explores what it means to be young in this country and in a world heading towards collapse. With five actors on stage, live music, and video projections, we immerse ourselves in the story of an amateur rock band trying to capture the essence of youth in a song. Along the way, they find themselves overwhelmed by their desires to change the world, to succeed, or at least to survive. The mechanisms employed in the performance invite genuine encounters and direct audience participation, allowing spectators’ desires to resurface throughout the show and become part of the final composition of the song, which changes with every performance. The song also becomes a statement about what it means to be young.

With this piece, we seek to question the different narratives surrounding the notion of youth and the ways in which capitalism has assimilated it. We believe that youth is not a biological stage, but above all, the agency we have over our own desire.

This project emerged from a collective creation laboratory exploring the notion of youth. It was our second project and the one that shaped the way we have worked ever since. We began without a dramatic text; everyone conducted research both onstage and offstage, everyone was a creator, and the direction of both the process and the project was decided collectively. Throughout the process, we were not only rehearsing a theatre piece, but also a form of micropolitical organization. Above all, we were rehearsing a way of being in the world.
